Located half an hour from Nice International Airport, Cannes is the jewel in the French Riviera's crown.
The area in the very centre of Cannes, clearly contained within the “Voie Rapide” and La Croisette, is known as the Banane. The Voie Rapide is a ring road just a few blocks inland of the seafront, and La Croisette runs along the shore. La Banane is the very famous and glittering centre of Cannes, home to luxurious hotels, the shoppers’ paradise - the Rue d’Antibes, fabulous homes and apartments, and trendy gastronomic restaurants, and chi-chi boutiques. All these are to be found in this lively area, the heart of which is known as the “Carré d’Or” or “Golden Square”, well known for the chic atmosphere that defines it.
Property is at a premium. La Banane is the area particularly sought after by property investors, especially if they have apartment rentals in mind or want a super second home; its proximity to the Boulevard de la Croisette and the Palais des Festivals ensures that it is booked to capacity for the many congresses and events, and its beautiful beaches, famously easy-going lifestyle and easy accommodation in hotels or apartments attracts holiday-makers in droves.
Step outwards beyond the Voie Rapide, or eastward into the peninsula-suburb of Palm Beach, and Cannes presents an entirely different face. It is actually a small town, walkable almost from end to end and from the beach to the foothills overlooking it. The roads are quiet, the suburbs are leafy and green, and most importantly they are safe, and life is very good.
Lavish and modest homes sit comfortably side by side, and occasional apartment blocks dot the slopes. Residents include Cannois who live and work locally, and non-French or Northern-French owners, sometimes of second-homes, who are there to enjoy what Cannes has to offer, being a unique quality of life, and at least 300 days of sunshine per year.
Cannes is a true Gem on the French Riviera, as generations of discerning people have come to know since the 19th century, and even before that.
